John H. McClinton, Sr., 86, of Kingston, was called to his eternal rest on Sunday afternoon, December 26, 2010 at the Kingston Hospital.
He was a graduate of Saugerties High School, class of 1943; he then enlisted in the US Navy, attaining the rank of Seaman 1st Class, having served during WW II. He was a graduate of the International Correspondence School of Scranton, PA, earning a degree in Practical FM and Television in 1953 and he furthered his education with a degree in Industrial Electronics in1958. He had been employed by Lehigh Portland Cement of Alison, NY as an electrician, retiring in 1986 after 36 years of service.
He had a lifetime interest in electronics, having a fond interest and knowledge of Television repair; he was a member of the Gateway Masonic Lodge #35. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, and especially spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He was born May 27, 1924 in Bethel, SC to the late Thomas C. and Lillie B. Watson McClinton, and was the husband of the late Bernice Snyder McClinton, she died on October 9th, 1984.
He is survived by his beloved family, his children, Bernice H. McClinton, Jeanette F. and her husband Mark Howell, Sr., Anna L and her husband Charles Parker, John H. Jr., Albert W., George T. and his wife Mary, James R., Steven A., Theron A. and his wife Tanya North and Robert A. McClinton, 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, a daughter in law Bonnie Wells, a sister in law Ada Snyder. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends, especially his side kick Richard J. Acosta. He was predeceased by his children Michael A., Karen A. and Donald D. McClinton, his siblings Mattie O'Blenis, Carrie Jackson, Elizabeth Brown and James McClinton
Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, Friends may call on Thursday from 4 - 9 pm. A Homegoing Service will be held at the New Central Baptist Church on Friday at 11:00 a.m., the Rev. A. L. Coston, presiding.
Burial in Wiltwyck Cemetery, with military honors provided by Joyce Schirick Post # 1386 VFW.
