John H. Schmidt, 88, of West Hurley, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Ten Broeck Commons in Lake Katrine. He was born April 12, 1926 in Walden, NY to the late Edward and Gladys (Henkel) Schmidt. He was married to his loving wife of 45 years, Harriette (Emig) Schmidt. They wed on June 14th 1969.
John was a Kingston High School Graduate, Class of 1943. He then served his country in the US Navy on the USS Crenshaw during World War II. After his honorable discharge he worked for the Railroad for 13 years. John later worked for E G & G Rotron in Woodstock for many years until his retirement. He was a devoted member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Kingston.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Renee Ferraro of Hurley, Alfred (Ruth) Nussbaum of West Hurley, Bill (Marilyn) Nussbaum & Beth Rohrkemper, of Three Rivers, CA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Joseph (Tracy) Ferraro, Logan Rohrkemper, 1 great-granddaughter, Emma Jo Ferraro, as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son, Richard "Randy" Schmidt and his brother, Edward Schmidt.
Entrusted to the care of Luke Keyser of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston, where friends and family may visit on Thursday June 5th from 5 to 8pm. The service will take place at 10am on Friday June 6th at Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 104 Wurts St., Kingston. Burial will follow in Wiltwyck Cemetery.
