John "Jack" F. Spinnenweber, 89, of Broadway, Port Ewen, NY, died Monday, October 13, 2008 at Golden Hill Health Care Center, Kingston, NY. He was born March 26, 1919 in Port Ewen, NY to the late Fred and Anna Schweigel Spinnenweber. He was the husband of Emma Spinnenweber, they celebrated 27 years of marriage.
He was graduate of Kingston High School, Class of 1938. He served in the US Navy
during WW II.
He was the founder and President of Spinnenweber Construction, Real Estate and Supply Companies.
He was a life member of the Reformed Church of Port Ewen, and had been a deacon and Sunday school superintendent; very active member of Kingston Kiwanis Club and had been past president; member Town of Esopus American Legion Post #1298; member Masonic Lodge #343 F& AM. past member Port Ewen Fire Department. He was instrumental in helping get the Robert Graves School built and also in setting up the street numbering system east and west of Broadway in Port Ewen. He had started and had been active in the Port Ewen Business Association. He had a love for the Hudson River, enjoyed sailing and spending time at his camp on the river.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughters Janet Van Heusen, Port Ewen and Sue Bunten, Port Ewen, a son Jack D. Spinnenweber, West Hurley, step son Dr. Richard Kappler, Saugerties, step daughter Karen Kappler, Boston, MA, sister Kathleen Van Tassel, Port Ewen, Virginia Robinson, Port Ewen, 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandsons. Several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a brother Fred Spinnenweber and a sister Ruth Spinnenweber.
Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral Service, Inc., 216 Broadway, Port Ewen, where services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am. Rev. Dr. David Brechter and Rev. James Beukelman, officiating.
