John Elton Cook Sr. of Ulster Avenue, Lake Katrine, died Thursday, October 4, 2007 at his home. He was 85.
He was born in Kingston on September 27, 1922 a son of the late John Elton and Maude Tilly Cook. He married Ruth Edna Phinney on March 16, 1947.
For 40 years Mr. Cook was a local salesman for Jewel Tea Co. He retired in 1976. From 1974 until 1989 he owned and operated J.C.R. Tapes on Ulster Ave., Lake Katrine.
An avid bowler, Mr. Cook ran the Town of Ulster mens and womens softball leagues from 1976 - 1988.
His wife died April 15, 2003; one son Robert F. Cook died in 1998; and one sister Alma Meeker died previously.
Surviving are two sons John E. Cook Jr. and his wife Lorraine of Lake Katrine and Dale W. Cook and his wife Catherine of Conklin; two daughters Debra J. Sickles and her husband Lansing of Coeymans Hollow and Judith Distler and her husband Michael of Casselberry, FL; ten grandchildren Wendy Scism, Laurie Shultis-Shader, Tracy, Andy, Robbie, Barbara, Matthew and Danny Cook, Michael and Kyle Distler; seven great grandchildren Joshua Cook, Brittney and Collin Schlegel; Jay Jr., Meranda, Nicole and Samantha Shultis; three great great grandchildren Katie and Aaliyah Cook and Aidan Potter; many nieces and nephews; many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A candlelight service will be conducted on Sunday evening at 8:15 PM. On Monday a funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home at 10:00 AM, Rev. Don Moore will officiate. Interment will be in Wiltwyck Cemetery.
