John E. Ahearn, Sr. of Ashokan Rd., Kingston died Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Golden Hill Health Care Center. He was 77.
Mr. Ahearn was born in New York City, a son of the late Francis and Charlotte Oates Ahearn.
He served in the Air Force during Korea. He received his associates degree from Ulster County Community College. A Master Electrician, he was employed as an inspector for the New York State Board of Underwriters. He was a member of American Legion Post 150 and the Joyce-Schirick Post 1386 VFW. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed computers, his dogs and spending time with his grandchildren.
On March 17, 1956, he married Gail Alpert.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four daughters, Gail Osterhoudt and her husband Robert of West Shokan; Katherine Farkas and her husband James of Poughkeepsie; Doreen Naccarato and her husband Mark of Marbletown; Colleen Budik and her husband Frank of Stone Ridge; three sons, John E. Ahearn, Jr. and his wife Toni of Stone Ridge; Robert K. Ahearn, Sr. of Middletown, PA; Brian F. Ahearn and his wife Carrie of Kerhonkson and one sister, Margaret Ferrarie of Park Ridge, NJ. Eighteen grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive.
His brother, Francis Ahearn died previously.
Friends will be received at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., Kingston on Thursday from 2 - 4 PM and 6 - 9 PM with a funeral service at 8:30 PM. Cremation will be in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
