John Clearwater

John V. Clearwater, 93, of Hurley, NY, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2017. He was born May 15, 1923 on Flatbush Road, Kingston, NY to the late John and Helen (Cullen) Clearwater. He was married to Dorothea (Mead) Clearwater for 67 years, wed in September 1949.

John was extremely proud of his military service in WWII. He served as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne "Screaming Eagles". He was a member of the Joyce Schirick Post #1386 VFW, American Legion Post #150 and the Disabled American Veterans. He later worked as a plumber for Hercules Powder Company in Port Ewen.

John was an avid bowler in the City of Kingston for decades; he was a lifelong trout fisherman in the Catskills; he loved sports, especially the NY Mets and the NY Giants. In his younger years he played baseball and is in the Kingston Baseball Hall of Fame. He also loved boxing. John loved tending his vegetable garden in his early retirement. "Vince", as most people knew him, lived an honest and proud life to the end.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by his son Dana Clearwater and his wife, Gail; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his siblings, Robert Clearwater and Cecilla Reynolds.

Entrusted to the care of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, where friends and family may visit on Wednesday April 26 from 10am to 12pm with the funeral service starting at 12pm. Burial will follow in Hurley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
