John A. Aviles, 83, of the town of Ulster, passed away on April 9, 2017 at home with his family. He was born in Bronx N.Y. and often shared his memories of when he was a child and the experiences he had with his friends and family. He was in the Air Force and was a radio operator for Air Sea rescue missions during the Korean war.
In 1955 he married Madeline (Tootsie) Cullen. Shortly after he left the Air Force they moved to the Kingston area where John started working for IBM and began to raise their family. He then fully retired and spent his time with family and grandchildren. John was a well respected and competitive tennis player and could often be found on the tennis court coordinating matches and competing in the game he loved.
He was very involved in the community and served on various boards and committees including Key Bank and Ulster County Community College. He was an avid NY sports fan and enjoyed watching the Giants, Yankees and Knicks when he could.
In addition to his parents and sister (Rita Morrison) John was predeceased by his wife Madeline in November 2015. John is survived by his children Carol Aviles Timlin and her husband Ernest of Kingston and Stephen Aviles and his wife Pauline as well as his grandchildren Kyle, Kelcie and Tiana Timlin.
