Joe Anne Lupton of Hurley died Monday, May 3, 2010 at her home. She was 83.
She was born in Oak Hill, West Virginia on April 24, 1927, a daughter of the lat Estelle and Adah Frasier Burdette. Mrs. Lupton moved to this area in 1952 and settled in Hurley.
Mrs. Lupton attended Ithaca College. In 1958 she began teaching physical education at Meagher Elementary and Sophie Finn Elementary Schools. She also taught first grade at the Hurley Elementary School.
An active member of the Hurley Reformed Church, Mrs. Lupton sang in the choir. She belonged to the Hurley "Little Garden Club" and previously sang with the Sweet Adelines.
Her husband Jack H. Lupton died December 27, 1977. Three brothers and three sisters all died previously.
Surviving are her daughter Nancy Garraghan and her husband Abel of Kingston; two sons Steven Lupton and his wife Deborah of Summit, NJ and Jack Lupton Jr. of Little Silver, NJ; nine grandchildren Jack Lupton III and Charlotte Lupton; Jennifer, Lauren, Eric and Michael Lupton; Patrick Garraghan, Kiley Garraghan - Shea and Molly Garraghan; three great grandchildren Gracie, Marin and Cian Shea; several nieces and nephews.
Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Friday from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be conducted at the Hurley Reformed Church on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. Private inurnment will be in Hurley Cemetery.
