Joan Whalen Reis of Kingston,NY passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday May 28, 2018. She was born on March 18,1927 in Kingston, NY and was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Reilly) Whalen.
Joan was a lifelong Kingston resident. She attended St. Mary's School and The Academy of St. Ursula. Joan was a graduate of Ladycliff College and received her Masters degree from The State University of New York at Albany. Joan was a teacher and guidance Counselor for many years in the Kingston Public School District and a former member of the American Association of University Women.
After her retirement, Joan volunteered at The Benedictine Hospital and was on the board of The Volunteers at the Hudson Valley Senior Residence. She was a devout Catholic and life long parishioner at St. Mary's Church in Kingston.
Joan was married to Nicholas M. Reis, Jr., on May 24,1975. In addition to her beloved husband Nicholas, she is survived by her sister Carol Whalen Neisser and her husband Ken; her nieces Megan Neisser, Mary Beth Usry (Greg) , Eileen Hargrove (Michael) and Diane Reilly (Mike); her nephews John Neisser (Linda) and Ted Neisser; and many grand nieces and nephews as well as three great-grand nieces.
Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral and Cremation Service 326 Albany Avenue Kingston, NY 12401. where family and friends may visit Thursday from 4 pm to 7 pm. A procession will form Friday at 10:00 am at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Mary's Church in Kingston at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Saint Mary's Cemetery.
