Joan H. Barten

Kingston - Joan H. Barten, formerly of Florence St., died Tuesday, November 24, 2015 in West Suffield, CT surrounded by her family. She was 88. Born in Kingston and raised in Connelly, she was the daughter of the late Michael L. and Lauretta C. Snyder Henry. After attending Kingston High School (Class of 1944), where she was a member of the National Honor Society, Joan graduated from Moran's Business School, and subsequently worked for Central Hudson Gas & Electric Company. A homemaker, she did extensive volunteer work with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic Orchestra and as a reading tutor at Meagher School. Joan was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Church where she cared for the altar, arranged flowers, decorated the church for Christmas and Easter, and served on the restoration committee. Her husband of 65 years, Theodore G. Barten died on December 27, 2012. Surviving are her sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren: Theodore "Ted" and Iris Barten of Bolton, MA, Gary Barten and Katherine Meyer of Alameda, CA, Paul and Donna Barten of West Suffield, CT and their children, Ellen Barten (Brooklyn, NY) and Michael Barten (Thunder Bay, Ontario). She is also survived by her brother, John O. Henry of Hurley, NY, her nieces, Jane Turshman, Laurie Cerami, and Susan Walkowski, and their families. A funeral procession will form at the funeral home on Saturday at 9:00 AM and process to St. Peter's Church for a funeral Mass at 10 AM. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery.
