Joan C. Golgoski, 81, of Kingston, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 29, 2013 at home with her family at her side. She was born June 1, 1932 in Kingston to the late George Parslow Jr. and Catherine Parslow.
Joan started working at Benedictine Hospital as a nurse's aide and then went to school through the BOCES LPN program at Kingston Hospital in 1972. While working for Benedictine as an LPN, she continued her medical education earning her degree as a RN by attending UCCC and through Independent Study with the guidance of Regents College. She continued to work at Benedictine Hospital as a psychiatric nurse until her retirement in 1993.
She enjoyed ceramics, drawing, painting, and camping with her family. Always interested, she kept current with any and all nursing & medical information. The theme of art ran through her life in every corner.
Joan is survived by her children, Kathleen "Sis" Blankschan and her husband Ted of Kingston, Irene "Rene" Robbins and her husband Rich of Wawarsing, Thomas Golgoski and his wife Marilyn of New Paltz, Edward Golgoski and his wife Gail of Kingston, Alan "Babs" Golgoski of Kingston, Chris Golgoski of Shokan. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her sister Helen Parslow, her step-mother, Violet Quick Parslow, and her daughter-in-law, Debbie Golgoski.
Entrusted to the care of Luke Keyser of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, where friends may call on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. The funeral will take place on Wednesday at 10am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, Kingston.
Per Joan's wishes in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in order to set up a scholarship for BOCES in her name.
