Jeanne Brigham Gates

Jeanne B. Gates, 86, of Lake Katrine, passed away peacefully at The Baptist Home in Rhinebeck, Thursday, July 1, 2010, with her son and daughter at her side.
She was born in Kingston, NY, June 14, 1924, the daughter of the late Ward E. and Emma L. Brigham.

A lifelong area resident, she was a 1941 graduate of Kingston High School and attended St. Lawrence University, after which she worked at Smith Printing and Central Hudson. On August 19, 1944, she married Parran A. "Pete" Gates, of Lake Katrine, where they made their home and raised 2 children. She was an office secretary at the Edward R. Crosby elementary school from 1967 to her retirement in 1982.

Jeanne was a member of the Old Dutch Reformed Church in Kingston for 80 years, and enjoyed singing in the church choirs for most of that time. She was also an original member of the Kingston High School Acapella Choir and a charter member of the Mid-Hudson Women's Chorus.

She loved flowers and tending to her garden. She also loved camping and spending time with family and friends at her cabin on the lake in the Adirondacks.

Jeanne is survived by her loving children, Thomas C. and his wife Gail M. Gates (Pecora) of Rhinebeck, NY, and Carol G. and her husband James W. Werner of Hurley, NY, grandchildren Melanie and Steven Gates, Christopher and his wife Brittany Werner, and Jeffrey, Michael, and James Werner, great grandchildren Kalista Song and Marlena Quinn Werner, her brother Ward E. and his wife Eunice Brigham, of Lyndhurst, NJ, nephew Ward A. Brigham, and niece Barbara Stepkowski.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Keyser Funeral Home, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston, NY, with the funeral service Wednesday at 11 AM at Old Dutch Church, 272 Wall Street, Kingston, NY, 12401. Burial service will follow at Montrepose Cemetery, Kingston, NY.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Old Dutch Reformed Church, Memorial Fund,
272 Wall St., Kingston, NY, in memory of Jeanne B. Gates.
