Jean R. Mobbs

Jean Ruth Pega Mobbs, 88, of Newland, North Carolina, died Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Mountain Valley Manor Adult Home, Kingston, NY. Born in Union City, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Dante & Ruth Arndt Pega. She graduated from Emerson (U.C.) High School and went on to graduate from Jersey City State University with a teaching degree. Jean lived in Haworth, NJ from 1949 until 1979, raising five children. She was actively involved in the children's sports and schools, served on the Ladies' Auxillary for the Haworth Fire Company, and was a part-time substitute teacher in the Dumont school system. She very much enjoyed the family's summer homes in Ocean Beach, NJ, and later in Sloansville, New York, Land Harbor, NC, and Fort Pierce, FL. Jean became an avid golfer and bridge player, and played regularly with the Ladies' 9 Holer's. She enjoyed playing various courses in Florida and with her sons. She was an accomplished seamstress, cook, and housemaker, and enjoyed having her family with her at all times. Jean is survived by her five children, Rebecca J. Thillet of Hudson, NY, Thomas Mobbs and his wife Janis of White Lake, NY, Daniel Mobbs and his wife Janet of Colt's Neck, NJ, Elaine Lindgren and her spouse, Suzanne of Kingston, Geoffrey Mobbs and his wife Amy of Fort Mills, SC, 14 grandchildren, Thomas, Christopher, Matthew, Kellie, Katie, Michael, Ashley, Kyle, Krista, Annika, Veronica, Harrison, Hayden and Iain. Two nieces also survive. In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Leonard Mobbs, who passed in 2003, a brother, Robert Pega, three grandchildren, Arthur, Henry, William and one great grandson, Adam. Funeral Service and interment will be held privately. Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave, is honored to assist the family with the arrangements.
