Jean Louise Wells, 90, of Kingston, NY, formerly of Ulster Park and Rhinebeck, passed peacefully Friday, November 22, 2013 at Golden Hill Health Care Center, Kingston. She was born March 19, 1923.
A native of Halcott Center, Jean Kelly Wells was the daughter of the late Chauncey and Lula Kelly. She was also predeceased by her husband, Ralph Wells and her sister and brother in law, Doris and Don Herring.
Jean is survived by her three sons and their wives, Raymond (Linda) of Kingston, Roger (Gail) of Wilmington, NC, and Randy (Fran) of Fuquay Varina, NC. Three grandsons, Brian, Joel, and Chester Wells and several nephews also survive.
Jean was a member of the Reformed Church of Port Ewen. She had served the Church in many capacities, including Deacon, Elder, President of the Women's Guild and Sunday School Superintendent.
She was a graduate of the Kingston Hospital School of Nursing. Jean was proud to serve the community as a Registered Nurse, first at the Kingston Hospital and later at IBM Kingston. She was a member of the Quarter Century Club and at the time of her retirement, was a manager of the nursing staff.
Jean enjoyed cooking, baking and camping with Ralph and their boys as they were growing up in Ulster Park. An avid reader and writer, Jean had a large library and was especially fond of mysteries. Quite recently, Jean had begun writing stories of her childhood as a country girl. These were published in her hometown newsletter, The Times of Halcott. She possessed a great love for animals, particularly cats and dogs.
The family expresses their gratitude to the staff of S-1 at Golden Hill for their loving care of Jean throughout her eight years there.
Entrusted to the care of Eric Keyser, Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 216 Broadway, Port Ewen, Where friends will be received on Sunday from 2-5. The Funeral Service will take place 11 am on Monday at the Reformed Church of Port Ewen. Burial in St. Remy Cemetery.
