Jean Ellen May of Downs Street, Kingston died Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Kingston Hospital. She was 89.
A native and lifelong Kingston resident, she was born on November 29, 1918, a daughter of the late Howard S. and Olga L. Jackson Eaton.
For 20 years Mrs. May co-owned with her husband, the former May's Superette on O'Neil St., Kingston. From the 1970's through the 1990's she co-owned and operated with her husband, Millstream Realty, Kingston.
Mrs. May attended the First Presbyterian Church, Kingston and belonged to the Dorfelmians Womens Group. She was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary, V.F.W. and an honorary grandma for Ulster County Girl Scouts. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and spending time with her family.
Her husband, Alvin F. May, died October 28, 1998; one daughter Lucille May died in 1949; two brothers Howard and Donald Eaton, both died previously.
Surviving are three daughters Andrea R. May of Kingston, Elaine L. May-Yerry and her husband Duane Yerry of Kingston, and Marcia A. Modeen of Saugerties; four grandchildren Amber and Heather Yerry, Benjamin and Adam Modeen; many nieces and nephew. She was predeceased by her beloved dog, Pumpkin.
A gathering of family and friends will be on Friday, March 28, 2008 at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. A Memorial Service will be conducted on Saturday, March 29th at 12:00 PM. Rev. Howard Smith and Rev. Ralph Merrante will co-officiate. Inurnment will follow in Montrepose Cemetery.
