Jean A. Brown

April 17, 1936 — February 10, 2021

Jean A. Brown, 84, of Kingston, passed Wednesday, February 10th, 2021 at Eleanor Nursing Home in Hyde Park, New York. Jean was born April 17, 1936 and she graduated from Kingston High School. After graduation, she went to the BOCES School of Nursing and later worked as a nurse at Kingston Hospital for many years.

She loved taking care of people and she always extended a helping hand. Anyone who knew Jean would tell you that she would give you the shirt off of her back if you needed it. As the oldest of her siblings Jean was very independent. When her parents were out working, Jean would take over the household. She was the cook in the family as well as shoulder for her siblings to lean on. Jean loved her family and showed that love to her brothers and sisters by encouraging them and always reminding them that they had good parents who were one of a kind.

Like her parents, Jean was also one of a kind. She was known as the family historian because she loved to search the history of the Brown's. Jean is the one who discovered that her family had relatives in the old Dutch Church Cemetery in their hometown of Kingston, New York. She knew her roots and was proud of them. Jean loved to travel and spent much of her time on the road. When you got in the car with her you wouldn't know where you were going to end up. Even though she loved traveling, she always found her way back to her hometown, Kingston, New York. This is where her parents, Adeline and Ezekiel Brown were laid to rest. Jean is proceeded in death by her parents and siblings Albert Brown, Edward Brown, and Sheldon Brown along with her grandson Jamel Williams.

She is survived by her sisters Joan Brown Gaunt of Kingston, New York and Addie Webster of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Along with her children Michelle Parks of Florida, Cheryl Smith of Poughkeepsie, New York, and Louis and Rodney Smith of Kingston, New York, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. While her family is left to cherish her memory, so is Jean's community.

Joe Beez, Kingston's local deli deemed Jean the queen of sugar and sass. As of late, Jean loved reading her Bible, eating white cake with strawberry filling and feeding the birds. "I feed the birds because they're our ancestors," she would say.

Jean lived a life of service, always present and connected to the world around her. She filled those around her with love. In her honor spread love and make sure to feed the birds.

Written by, niece Christina Brown, in honor of Aunt Jean Brown. We love you always and forever. Rest peacefully.
