Janice Samuels, 90, of Plymouth Avenue in Kingston, NY, died Tuesday, December 30th 2014 at home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in NYC, the daughter of the late Eugene D. and Mary Goldstein Tepper. Janice was an area resident since 1949 and a member of Congregation Ahavath Israel in Kingston.
She was the heartbeat of her family. She was a devoted, loving mother, friend and guiding light to all she met and made sure no one ever went hungry in her home. She inspired honesty and integrity in each of her children and grandchildren. She loved working with her husband, Sid, at the fruit stand, especially during the holidays making Christmas wreaths. She also worked for her son, "Bill" Samuels and answered the phone with "Bills appliance repair!" until she was 88 years old. She was a die-hard New York Yankees fan and never missed a game on T.V. She also loved going to the casino, playing Mahjong and listening to Frank Sinatra who she used to skip school to go see perform.
Janice is survived by two sons, Dr. David Samuels and his wife Eileen of South Port, NC, William Samuels and his wife Rosemary of Hurley, one daughter Reine Amell and her husband Kirby of Kingston. Recognition and acknowledgment is given to her daughter, Reine, for providing limitless love and compassion. Janice leaves behind five grandchildren, Jennifer Brooke Samuels, Alissa Rose Amell-Theodor, wife of Jason Theodor, Ashley Amell, Michael Samuels and Ryan Samuels. She is also survived by Kitchie, her ever faithful friend and guard dog.
Janice was predeceased by her husband Sidney George Samuels who passed April 19th 1977, and her sister Madeline Propp, who passed in March, 2001.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral home, 411 Albany Avenue on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at 10:00 AM with Cantor Devorah Gartner from Congregation Ahavath Israel, officiating.
Interment will follow in Montrepose Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Ulster County SPCA Animal Shelter, 20 Wiedy Rd, Kingston, NY 12401. The family will sit shiva on Thursday from 6-8 PM with a minyan at 7 PM.
