James R. Astalos, 72, passed away on August 24, 2015 in Kingston, NY. A life long resident of Kingston and Red Hook, James attended Kingston High School and Ulster County Community College. He was a veteran of the United States Navy who served 4 years with an Honorable Discharge. James retired 7 years ago from New York State Dept. of Transportation after 20 years of service.
James is survived by his life partner of 31 years, Georgette Perry of Red Hook and his brothers, William Astalos of Redondo Beach, CA and Robert Astalos Sr. and his wife Darlene of Saratoga Springs, NY. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including Robert Jr. and Rebecca Astalos of Saratoga Springs, NY. James is predeceased by his parents Samuel and Beatrice Astalos of Kingston and sister, Barbara Spears of CA.
James enjoyed boating, fishing, gardening and cooking. He regularly supported multiple veteran groups and animal rights groups.
Entrusted to the care of A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, 65 Lucas Ave, Kingston, where friends and family may visit on Thursday August 27 from 4:00 to 6:30pm with the service starting at 6:30pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
