James M. Binney, 88, of Kingston died peacefully Saturday October 2, 2021 at Health Alliance Hospital Broadway Campus in Kingston.
Born in Indiana, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Lemuel and Helen McGregor Binney.
James work for Wonderbread for over 30 years. He ran the Bob Steele Motel. He was the original owner of the Grand Slam Tavern. He worked part time for Binney Drywall and Big Belly Caterers. He served our country in the United States Army. He was a proud member of the American legion, a member of the Twaalfskill Country Club. James was an avid volunteer in the area’s baseball community, Kingston American, Town of Ulster, and Highland. He loved umpiring around the Hudson Valley and especially liked calling balls and strikes for the Kingston Braves. Besides enjoying his family, he enjoyed playing golf. He loved all sports but especially loved his Steelers.
James is survived by his children, Sue Herwig and her husband Ed, of Kingston, James(Doak) Binney and his wife Betty, of Kerhonkson and Jay Binney and his wife Brenda, of Kingston, seven grandchildren, Doug, Leslie, Ian, Logan, Jennifer, L.J. and Justin, three great grandchildren, Hailee, Margot and Jacobi.
In addition to his parents. James is predeceased by his wife of 53 years Barbara Binney who passed away August 1, 2014. James is also predeceased by his brother John(Jack) Binney and his sister Joan Divins.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday October 9, 2021 from 1 PM to 4 PM at the Simpson- Hammerl Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave Kingston, NY.
American Legion Post 150 will conduct a service at 3PM.
James will be buried next to wife at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL.
