d. November 19, 2016

James (Jim) Henry Brown, 82, of West Hurley, died November 19, 2016 after a lengthy battle with Lewy Body Dementia disease at Ferncliff Nursing Home, Rhinebeck, NY. Jim was born at home in Middleburgh, New York to Herbert H. (Elesia Rorick) Brown Sr. He is predeceased by his parents, his brother Herbert S. Brown, Jr., and his sister Freda Carman. Jim is survived by his loving wife Carol Gunther Brown at home and adored daughters, Denise (Kasey) Hughett of Utah, and Michelle Brown of Middletown, New York, sister-in-law, Dorothy Gunther Grippin of North Carolina, nephew, Darren (Regina) Grippin, of North Carolina and family friend Richard Grippin of Middleburgh, New York. He attended Schoharie and Middleburgh schools. After graduating from high school, Jim enlisted and spent four years in the United States Air Force with a honorable discharge. Most of that time was served in Wiesbaden, Germany and it was at that time Jim developed a passion for electronics. After 30 years, Jim retired as an engineer at IBM. Jim's greatest joy was spending time with his family, traveling, camping, sports and watching his favorite baseball team, The New York Yankees. As per Jim's request he has been cremated with no service. Family will gather at a later time for a private memorial. The family wishes to thank the wonderful, caring nurses and staff at Ferncliff Nursing Home that cared for Jim on a daily basis. And a special thanks to Alicia O'Keefe for her loving support. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of James to the Lewy Body Dementia Society at www.lbda.org.
