James Bedell of Flatbush Road, Town of Ulster died Thursday, October 22, 2009. He was 84.
Jim was born on July 1, 1925 in Brooklyn, New York to George and Irene O'Brien Bedell. Jim had one brother named Frances. J
im resided at Woodstock IRA from 1984 until moving to Palmer-ICF in 2007. Jim was with us at Ulster-Greene ARC for 25 great years.
Jim attended day program at the Pecora Center on Cornell Street until 2006 when he retired from the program to remain at home. While at Palmer Day Program, he enjoyed activities such as bean bag toss, balloon parachute, and most other activities - just as long as you approached him with humor and enthusiasm.
Jim was always very proud of his appearance and enjoyed dressing nice. Jim loved trains, fishing, spending time outdoors, and most of all, joking around with other people. He had a great sense of humor and could always find a way to make others smile through his mischievous personality. A very close staff member and friend at Palmer wrote:
"Jim was a wonderful, funny and loving man. No matter how he was feeling he always had the energy to make you laugh. He loved to cause a scene by making something fall off of a shelf, or kick a chair on his lift. You always knew that when he tapped you it was a 'love tap.' The thing he loved the most was attention. I would sit for hours and talk to him about current events, the weather, holidays, and how he loved to cause trouble, His smile and personality was one of a kind and I will think of him everyday. He will be deeply missed and loved always. Love you, Jim."
Jim will be greatly missed, and will live in our hearts forever.
Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Monday from 11:00 - 12:00 noon. At noon a funeral service will be conducted by Deacon Jack Peters. Interment will follow in Montrepose Cemetery.
