Jack R Deyo, 80, of Town of Ulster, died peacefully Thursday afternoon, May 23, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 18, 1933 in Kingston, the son of late Reginald B and the late Gertrude (Fraser) Deyo. He was married to his loving wife Gloria Modica Deyo; they wed on November 28, 1957.
Jack was a graduate of Kingston High School, Class of 1951. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a Financial Analyst for IBM Kingston, retiring in 1992
After retiring from IBM in 1992, he stayed very active; Jack was member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, he sang in the church choir, had served on the church council and had served as council president. He had been a member of the Mendelssohn Club with his father, Bud Deyo. Jack also played the tuba professionally for over 40 years and was a member of Muscians Local # 215
He was a dedicated volunteer and board officer of the Ulster Greene ARC for 26 years. For 22 years of those years he served as a Guardian, at one point for 18 people. For many years he was chairman of the Guardian Committee. For his hard work, dedication and good humor, Jack was honored by NY State Legislation through UARC with an annual award named after him "The Jack Deyo Award for Outstanding Advocacy"
He was also a volunteer at Golden Hill Health Care Center, always having a love for music, Jack put together over 50 song books for the residents to use while he conducted sing-a-longs from music of the 20's and 30's. Jack also worked two days a week in the activities department.
He was a partime employee of the Kingston City Schools, working in the lunch program, delivering lunches and was a member of Joyce Schirick Post #1386 VFW.
In addition to his loving wife Gloria, he is survived by his daughters; Sr. Master Sgt. Cathy E Deyo, USAF Retired of Valdosta, GA and Laurie Deyo Ramirez of Tuscon, AZ; grandchildren, Jordan and Jenna Ramirez; sister in law, Phyliss Deyo of Binghamton, NY and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother Alan Deyo.
Entrusted to the care of Eric Keyser, A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, 65 Lucas Ave, Kingston. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 - 8 pm . The service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Wednesday at 12 noon.
