Jack Lifshin, 104, of North Lauderdale, FL, formerly of Kingston, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 in the comfort of his daughter's home. Jack enlisted in the US Navy and served in the Pacific Theater in WWII until he was honorably discharged after sustaining an injury on his ship. Jack returned to Kingston, working in the Kingston Knitting Mill for more than 30 years. Jack married the love of his life, Freda Kushner Lifshin, and they were happily married for 62 years until Freda's death in 1999. Jack and Freda had two loving children, Judith (Lifshin) Brightly and Ronald Lifshin. Jack was an avid fisherman and card palyer, and also enjoyed bowling. He was a fantastic cook, and took great pride in cooking his prized recipes, such as Matzo Ball Soup and Cabbage Borscht. Jack was a beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and great-grandfather and uncle. He is survived by his daughter, Judith and her husband, Richard; his daughter-in-law Kathleen Lifshin; his six granddaughters, Alicia Trinley, Rebecca Roach, Tracy Kristen, Yvette St. Pierre, Beth Lifshin-Clark and Sarah Lifshin; as well as three step-grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and his wife, Jack is predeceased by his son, Ronald, his sister, Sadie (Lifshin) Kushner, his brothers Harry and Maurice Lifshin, and many other family and friends. Jack will be remembered for his kind and gentle soul, his charming personality and positive nature. During his life, and particularly in his later years, Jack showed amazing strength, courage and perseverance. Jack never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was a modest man and a true gentleman. Jack was his family's hero, and he will be greatly missed.
