Irene K. Firmbach, 85, of Cohoes, formerly a resident of Kingston for over fifty years, died February 16, 2014 at St. Peters Hospital in Albany. Born in Pine Bush, NY, she was a daughter of the late John & Mary Gusciora Konefal. Irene graduated from Pine Bush Central High School and attended Ulster Community College. She worked for IBM for 33 years in Kingston and Poughkeepsie from 1954-1987, where she was a member of the Quarter Century Club. Irene enjoyed traveling, golfing, swimming and spending time with her family. She is survived by siblings: Stella Winnie, Helen Bartlett and Walter Konefal and wife Mary. Nieces and nephews: Susan Mohen, Mary Jane Muller and husband Frederick, David Winnie, Peter Winnie, Paul Winnie and wife Meryl, Adam Bartlett and wife Joanne and several grandnieces and nephews. Predeceased by: Brothers and Sisters: Adam Konefal, Filomena McClory, Stanley Konefal and Peter Konefal. She is survived by five step-children, Elissa Hilliard and her husband David, Heidi Lenza and her husband Allen, Deborah Lawrence and her husband Randy, Karl Firmbach and his wife Tammy, Rudy Firmbach, Jr and his friend Ann, Several step grandchildren, great-grandchildren also survive.
In addition to her parents, Irene was predeceased by her husband Rudy Firmbach who passed in 1995. Reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave on Thursday, February 20, 2014 from 1-5 PM. Family and friends will gather on Friday at St. Joseph Church where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Interment in New Prospect Cemetery will be private.
