Ida Z. Ferraro of Seyler Terrace died Monday, October 16, 2006 at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston. She was 80.
She was born October 20, 1925 in Brooklyn, the daughter of the late Matteo and Beatrice Guerra Zanni.
She was a graduate of Kingston High School and Our Lady of Victory School of Nursing at Benedictine Hospital, Class of ’47. She attended St. John’s University in Brooklyn.
After completing her degree, she was a nursing arts instructor at Benedictine School of Nursing. She held many positions at Benedictine Hospital prior to leaving for a brief time to become the first nurse to develop the IBM First Aid Unit in Kingston. In 1958 she returned to Benedictine Hospital as the Assistant Director of Nursing, a position she held until retirement in 1986.
Mrs. Ferraro was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church in Glasco, a member of Benedictine Hospital Auxiliary, District 11, Nurse’s Association and the New York State Nurse’s Association.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph and her daughter, Maria Riccio and her husband, John and two grandsons, Joseph and Nicholas Riccio.
Reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., Kingston on Wednesday and Thursday from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 pm.
The funeral procession will form on Friday at 9:00 am from the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., Kingston and process to St. Joseph’s Church in Glasco for a 10:00 am funeral Mass. Burial will follow in St. Mary of the Snow Cemetery, Saugerties.
