Holcombe W. "Hokey" Tomson, formerly of Dirk Lane died Wednesday, January 6, 2009 at Golden Hill Health Care Center. He was 94. He was born in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late William and Alice Balevere Tomson. He was raised in Newark, NJ and graduated from Barringer H.S where he participated in track as a miler. Mr. Tomson served with the army in the Pacific Theater during WW II. He was a life member of John F. Jordan Memorial Post #5086 VFW in Hurley and a life member of DAV. From 1933-1956, he was associated with Prudential as a field auditor, sales representative and staff manager. He was a purchasing agent, insurance officer and auditor for Ulster County from 1974-1977. From 1978 until retirement in 1987, he served as Ulster County Supreme Court Clerk. He was also involved with investments and securities. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, a former member of the Hurley Lions and a member of the Ulster Literacy Association. He volunteered for the Ulster Chapter of Special Olympics and served as head timer. He was a member of the International Amateur Assoc. of Basketball Officials and was a member of the City of Kingston Baseball Hall of Fame. On October 18, 1941, he married Marie Smith. Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, George H. Tomson of Rosendale, his daughter-in-law, Darlene Tomson, five grandchildren, Tracey, Brent, Erin, Devion and Sita Tomson, six great-grandchildren and a niece and nephew. His son, Joel S. Tomson and his sister, Carolyn Benjamin died previously. Reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., Kingston on Sunday from 2- 4 PM. At 4:00 PM, a funeral service will be conducted. Rev. David Jolly will officiate. Interment in Hurley Cemetery will be private. Memorial contributions may be directed to Special Olympics of the Hudson Valley, 1207 Rt. 9, Suite 1C, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590 or to a charity of one's own choice.
