Hideko Abe Coon of Turkey Lane, Woodstock passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at home. She was 73. She was born February 21, 1933 in Yokota, Shimane-ken, Japan, a daughter of the late Shuzo and Shinako Abe. A naturalized citizen, Mrs. Coon came to the U.S. in 1956. She was an accomplished fly fisherwoman, seamstress and business partner of creative design at Laughing Bear Batik Company. She also was owner of Abe Studio Creative Design. Hideko was also an avid ballroom dancer and Vice President of the Ikenobo Ikebana Society of the New York Tachibana Chapter of Japanese flower arranging. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Donald Coon; her children, Roylene Kulesza and her husband, John of Fairfax, Va; Judy Coon and her partner Ron Kuhnke of Kingston; Scott Coon and his wife Mary of Averill Park; two grandchildren, Alex and Elizabeth Kulesza and a brother, Mitsuro Abe of Kobe, Japan. Several nieces and nephews also survive. One brother, Tetsuro Abe died previously. She was loved by many and very fondly remembered by all. Cremation was private. The family will hold a memorial gathering from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 22 at the New World Home Cooking Co., Rte 212 Saugerties, NY, with an informal memorial service at 2:00.
