Herman E. Quay, 78, died at the Northeast Center for Special Care, Lake Katrine on December 13, 20003 following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born April 2, 1926 in Albany, NY he was the son of the late Glen and Rose Quay.
Herman is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lolita, his son Herman, his daughter Colleen, eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A son Glen and daughter Kathy predeceased him.
Following Naval service in the South Pacific during World War II he worked as a carpenter before assuming his lifelong occupation as a dairy farmer. After the war he joined the National Guard and rose to the rank of Sergeant First Class before retiring.
An avid outdoorsman and collector of antiquities he ran a successful antique business for several years following his retirement. He was a volunteer fireman and a member, twice commander, of the Cherry Valley American Legion post 1360.
Memorial donations may be made to Cherry Valley Rescue Squad, the American Lung Association or the American Cancer Society.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 22nd at the Cherry Valley Methodist Church, 82 Main St. at 11:00 AM. Following the service there will be a gathering of family & friends at the Quay residence.
