Henry F. Rope, Jr., 82, of Big Indian, NY, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at home in Big Indian, NY. He was born on December 10, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Henry F. Rope, Sr. and Bridget (D'Elia) Rope.
He was married to his soul mate, the late Muriel E. (Broadhurst) Rope. They first met at 13 years old, and were married for 56 years. Hank was a life-long patriot and proud sailor, serving in the US Navy from 1958-1962. He was the founder and owner of Big Indian Guide Service, where he led fly fishing tours throughout the Catskills.
Hank was a member of the American Legion Post #950 in Phoenicia, Trout Unlimited and NYS Outdoor Guides Association. He also contributed his time and talent to Casting for Recovery and Trout in the Classroom with the Onteora School District.
He is survived by his beloved family, his children, Lori Lynn McLaughlin and her husband Edward of Yorktown Heights, NY, and Charles S. Rope of San Bruno, CA, and his adored granddaughters, Danielle T. McLaughlin and Grace M. McLaughlin.
Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401, where friends and family may visit on Thursday, March 23, 2023 from 4pm to 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am on Friday, March 24, 2023 at St. Francis de Sales Parish, 109 Main St., Phoenicia, NY 12464. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Shandaken, NY.
