Helen Straus

Helen C. Straus, 96, of Kingston, who died August 3, 2012 at her Washington Avenue home. Born in Glens Falls, New York, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Mark Cohen. She graduated from Syracuse University School of Journalism, where she attended on a NYS Merit Scholarship and was the editor of The Daily Orange. Helen worked as a journalist for the New York Herald Tribune in New York City and was also in Public Relations for the Edward L Bernays Company of New York. Helen was active with Americans for Democratic Action where she met Eleanor Roosevelt and assisted her in the founding of the American Association of United Nations. She is survived by two children, Hugh G. Straus of New York, NY and Leone S. Straus of Kingston. A funeral service will conducted at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow in Sharon Gardens, Valhalla, NY.
