Helen Sgroi

Helen Virginia Sgroi of Hurley, NY, passed peacefully surrounded by family on March 30, 2024, at WMC Health Alliance (Benedictine) Hospital, Kingston, NY.

Born in Weehawkeen, NJ, to the late Doris V. (Tate) and William P. Stevenson, Helen graduated from Kingston High School in 1955 and the Our Lady of Victory School of Nursing at Benedictine Hospital in 1958. She was married to the late Anthony Robert (Bob) Sgroi in 1961 and is survived by her children: Timothy M. Sgroi and his wife Brenda, Patricia E. Cunningham and her husband Jack, Cheryl A. Donahue and Deborah G. Sgroi; grandchildren: Thomas J. Donahue, Megan H. Donahue Bloom and her husband Stephen Bloom, Cassidy T. and Griffin W. Cunningham, and Brittany M. and Zachary T. Sgroi; great grandchild: Wyatt J. Bloom; and, her brother Edward K. Stevenson and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved sisters Roberta J. Sprague and Gail Stevenson and sister-in-law Frances M. Ostrander.

Employed as a Registered Nurse for several area physicians and the Mid-Hudson Family Practice Residency Program, Helen was a long-term member of the Hurley Reformed Church, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Women’s Guild and Quilter’s Club. She also was a member of the Social Solos. She was an avid lifelong reader and a member of the Hurley Library. Her loving kindness and infectious laughter brought joy to everyone she met.

Arrangements entrusted to the care of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston, NY 12401, where family and friends may visit Friday, April 5, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A memorial service will take place Saturday, April 6, at 10 a.m. at Hurley Reformed Church and its Stickley Gardens Columbarium, Main Street, Hurley.
