Helen Margaret Arnold

October 15, 1933 — June 6, 2014

Dr. Helen M. Arnold died on June 6, 2014. She was 80. Born in Sudbury, Ontario, she received her RN from Otytawa Civic Hospital, married and moved to Long Island, New York. She practiced nursing, raised two children and earned BSN and MSN degrees from Adelphi University. She joined the Adelphi faculty, where she advanced to Professor of Psychiatric Nursing. Later, she earned a PhD in Psychiatric Nursing at New York University and Diploma in Psychoanalysis from the Derner Institute. While teaching, she practiced individual, couples, family and group therapy in several settings and privately. She also wrote the psychiatric section of a widely used undergraduate nursing textbook and designed instructional videos for a "university without walls", newly instituted by New York State. She retired to Kerhonkson, NY, where she worked with her husband for over twenty years as a volunteer and board member of the Rochester Food Pantry. She is survived by her husband, John D. Arnold, her son, Matthew D. Arnold, her daughter and son-in-law Joan and William Crowley and grandchildren Rowan, Duncan and Rhiannon Crowley , all of Kerhonkson. Helen Arnold spent all of her adult life helping other people and she will be remembered and loved as long as they live.
