Helen Dunkley Slover of Mountain View Court died Monday, April 21, 2008 at Kingston Hospital. She was 77.
She was born November 29, 1930 in Paterson, NJ a daughter of the late Thomas and Ruth Walton Dunkley.
A Kingston area resident since 1949, she graduated from the Clifton High School in Clifton, NJ and from the Kingston Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1952. A registered nurse, she was Certified in Gerentologic Nursing. From 1952 to 1972, she was employed by Kingston Hospital and from 1972- 1994 at Golden Hill Health Care Center, servicng as Personnel Service Director at the Health Related Facility and later as Staff Development Coordinator.
Mrs. Slover was a member of the Kingston Hospital Alumni; a member of the New york State Nursing Assoc. (NYSNA) District 11 and received the 1994 NY State Nurse of Distinction Award and the 1997 Nursing Excellence & Dedication Award by District 11, NYSNA. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and served as a Sunday School teacher for 15 years; a former President of Women of Evangelical Church in America, a member of the church council; Outreach Committee and Bible Study Group. Mrs. Slover also volunteered at the Golden Hill Health Care Facility, the Clinton Ave. Soup Kitchen and the Kingston Visitor Center.
On September 14, 1952, she married William A. Slover Sr. Mr. Slover died December 2, 2005.
Surviving are two daughters, Cindy Weatherly and her husband Jim of Houston, TX; Kathy Hoffstatter and her husband Ken of Bellvue, NE and two sons, William A. Slover Jr. and his wife Karen of Melbourne, FL and David Slover and his wife Lisa of Port St. Lucie, FL; a sister, Betty Grapes of New Jersey and a brother, Thomas C. Dunkley of Vermont. Five grandchildren, Amber Slover, Heather Greger, Jeremiah Hoffstatter, Daniel and Yordanos Slover and many nieces and nephews also survive.
Reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., Kingston on Thursday from 4-7 PM. A funeral procession will form on Friday at 9:15 AM from the funeral home. A funeral service will be conducted at Redeemer Lutheran Church at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Montrepose Cemetery.
