Harry Stahl, 89, of Flatbush Avenue, died Sunday, August 5, 2012 at the Baptist Home in Rhinebeck.
Born in Margaretville, he was the son of the late John A. & Elsie Binch Stahl.
Harry attended Kingston High School where he participated in many sports. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Navy. In January of 1947, he was aboard the USS Philippine Sea and was part of the 3rd Antarctic Expedition, which was the largest exploring party in history. He was also on the USS Santee which was torpedoed and hit by a kamikaze plane in the same battle. Later he served on the USS Ranger.
He worked for IBM for 33 years and was a member of the Quarter Century Club.
He is survived by five children, Althea Reinhard and her husband Frank of Port Ewen, Carol Stahl of Kingston, Harry Stahl and his wife Maria of White Plains, Lynne Mottsey and her husband Michael of Windsor, SC and Ernest Stahl of Kingston, six grandchildren, Eric Mentessi and his wife Lorina, Tanya Clark and her husband Ed, Marissa Mottsey, Lyndsie Mottsey, four great grandchildren, Taylor Mentessi, Jaquelyn Mentessi, Luke Mentessi, Bradley Clark and Myles Mentessi. A brother, Bernie Stahl of Olivebridge and many nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, Harry was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Althea Stahl, when she passed in 2010. He was also predeceased by his four siblings, Jeannie Ramundo, Mary Brutkowski, John Stahl and Emily Binch.
The family will receive friends at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow in Wiltwyck Cemetery
