Lake Katrine- Harry J. Kane of Carney Rd. Ulster Park and formerly of Red Hook died Sunday September 21, 2003 at Ten Broeck Commons Nursing Home. He was 91. He was born August 30, 1912 in Bronxville, a son of the late Joseph and Catherine Campbell Kane. A U.S. Army veteran of WW II, he served with the 10th. Mountain Division in Italy. He was a graduate of SUNY-Albany and taught business at Red Hook High School for 25 yrs., retiring in 1972. Prior to the war, he was an auditor for New York State. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 7765, Red Hook, the New York State United Teachers and the Red Hook Golf Club. He was an avid golfer, a member of an investment club and enjoyed organic gardening and was a writer, poet and artist. His wife Mary Shannon Kane died March 30, 1986. Surviving is his daughter, Julie Kane Brinkmann and her husband Tom of Ulster Park, a brother Joseph Kane of Red Hook and two sisters, Elizabeth Trow of Red Hook and Jane Zimmerman of Raleigh, NC. Two grandchildren. Ananda and Jeremy Brinkmann and many nieces and nephews also survive. Two brothers, Kenneth and John Kane died previously. Reposing at the Burnett and White Funeral Home, South Broadway, Red Hook on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. The funeral procession will form on Saturday at 10:30 am from the funeral home. At 11:00 am, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Christopher’s Church. Cremation will be private. Inurnment will take place in St. Paul’s Cemetery in Red Hook at a later date.
