Harriette Schmidt, 95, of West Hurley, NY passed away peacefully on Friday, April 29, 2022 at The Pines at Poughkeepsie in Poughkeepsie, NY.
She was born on January 24, 1927 in Queens, NY and was the daughter of the late William Emig and Margaret Sutter.
After graduating from Kingston High School in 1945, Harriette soon married her high school sweetheart, G. Alfred Nussbaum. They had 3 children together but in 1962, Al had a heart attack and died, leaving Harriette to raise their family on her own.
Harriette worked several jobs, including teaching piano to many of the local children, trying to provide for her family, finally finding a position at Rotron Manufacturing in Woodstock, NY, where she was an executive secretary. She was also a faithful member of Redeemer Lutheran Church for many years.
In 1969, Harriette was fortunate to find love again and married John Schmidt, who shared her love of travel and the church community. He passed away in 2014.
She is survived by her son, Al Nussbaum, daughter, Beth Rohrkemper and son, Bill Nussbaum (Marilyn Messa). Sister, Anna Mae Ross (Bud), Brother, Bill (Mary), brother, Roger. Step-grandson, Joseph Ferraro (Tracy) and step-great granddaughter Emma Ferraro and many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401, where family and friends may visit on Saturday, May 7, 2022 from 11am to 1pm. For those who wish, contributions in Harriette’s memory may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church or Hudson Valley Hospice.
