Harold “Jack” Shorr, of Seven Greens Apartments, Town of Ulster died Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at Ferncliff Nursing Home. He was 88.
He was born in Brooklyn on March 4, 1919, a son of the late Jack and Freida Gordon Shorr. In 1924 he moved to Kingston.
Served in the United States Army in Pacific theater of operations during WWII. He was one of the first to be drafted in WW II and served for 4 years. The locations of service were Australia and New Guinea.
Mr. Shorr owned and operated Jack’s Tire Service for 42 years located on North Front Street, Kingston.
He served 13 years as Treasurer of the Hudson Valley Foundation for Youth Health. Mr. Shorr also served on the Board as Treasurer for MHP for 10 years. He was a member of the Joyce – Schirick Post 1386, V.F.W.
His stepmother Fannie Shorr died previously.
Surviving are “His Irish Rose Annie Sherry”, Anne L. Sherry Kraft Shorr; four step sons Ed Ullman of Mount Tremper, Richard Kraft of Lake Katrine, Peter Kraft of Glenford, Kevin Kraft of Bearsville, one step daughter Ann Marie Bender of Northport, Florida; five grandchildren Justin, Nicholas, Kevin, and Jocelyn Kraft, and Christopher Bender; one great grandson Jacho Kraft.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 12:00 pm at Simpson – Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., Cantor Robert Cohen will officiate. Interment, with Joyce – Schirick Post 1386 Color Guard, will be in Hurley Cemetery.
