Harold Feldstein, of Fairview Avenue, Kingston died Sunday, November 16, 2003 at Kingston Hospital. He was 92.
Mr. Feldstein was born in Steppany, Conn. on July 21, 1911, a son of the late Louis and Molly Garfinkel Feldstein. As a young man, Mr. Feldstein served as a bugler and trumpet player for the NY National Guard. He was the nephew of Col. Abraham Garfinkel, a noted Adjutant General in the 2nd Corps at Bataan who was taken P.O.W.
For many years he resided in the Bronx and then, in 1966, moved to Forest Hills, Queens.
A pioneer in the frozen food and ice cream industry, Mr. Feldstein worked as a salesman for Courtley Frozen Foods in New York City and later for Whitelawn Dairy in Brooklyn. He maintained accounts until he was 88 years old.
He moved to Kingston to live near his daughter in 1999.
His wife Rose Samuels Feldstein died in 1996. Six sisters Ester Bauer, Lee Gerber, Jean Feldstein, Ruth Horowitz, Gert Stein and Harriet Simner all died previously.
Father of Suzanne Zimbler and her husband Sheldon; grandfather of Jill McLaughlin and her husband Grant, Scott Zimbler and his wife Eileen and Michael Zimbler; three great grandchildren Jeremy Grant and Alexander Ryan McLaughlin and Meghan Rose Zimbler. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at 11:00 at Simpson – Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. Rabbi Yitzchok Hecht will officiate. Interment in Beth David Cemetery, Elmont. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 102454, Atlanta, GA 30368-2454.
