Harlow F. DeForest, 88, of Kingston passed unexpectedly Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Health Alliance Hospital Broadway Campus, Kingston. He was born October 19, 1927 in Kingston, the son of the late Abram and Bertha Sutton DeForest.
Mr. DeForest was a graduate of Kingston High School, class of 1946, he then served in the US Army, He was the husband of Barbara Andrew DeForest, they wed on April 7th, 1950.
Mr. DeForest retired as the president of the DeForest Agency of Kingston.
Mr. DeForest was very active in the community; he was a member of the Fair Street Reformed Church, was a Senior Elder and served on the church consistory. He was a longtime member of Kingston Kiwanis and had served as President; he had many years of perfect attendance. He served on the YWCA board and served as President, he had served on the Kingston Hospital Board of Directors, Ulster County Community College board of directors, he was a member of Wiltwyck Golf Club and had served as president, served on the board and past President of Wiltwyck Cemetery, was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Joyce Schirick Post #1386 VFW, for many years had been a coach at the Jaycee Little League, had been a member of Kingston Lodge # 10 F&AM and had been an advisor of DeMolay.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons, Alan F. DeForest and his wife Cynthia, Craig H. DeForest, grandchildren Danielle DeForest, Laura DeForest-Parra and her husband Gus Parra, Whitney DeForest -Duby and her husband Adam Duby, Kaitlin De Forest, Valerie Deforest and Madeline DeForest, great grandchildren Addisyn, Jordyn, Colton, Hunter and Sawyer Duby and his daughter in law Mary Jo DeForest, the wife of the late Barry A. DeForest.
Entrusted to the care of the Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston. The family will receive their friends on Wednesday from 3 - 7 pm. The service will be on Thursday at 10 am. The Rev. Kendra VanHouten, officiating.
