Gordon Miller

d. April 1, 2013

Gordon Miller, of Summer St., Kingston died Monday, April 1, 2013 at HealthAlliance Hospital, Broadway. He was 65. He was born in Peekskill, NY. His father passed away when his was young teenager; however, his mother had a long and close relationship with Gordon until the time of her death in 1992. At an early age Gordon attended several special educational learning schools in the lower Hudson Valley. He was admitted in 1961 to the Wassaic State School for approximately a year. Gordon also attended the Kennedy School in Montrose in 1962 and several other residential facilities and schools until he was admitted to the Greenwood Rehab Center in 1973 which eventually was renamed as New Horizons. Gordon stayed with the New Horizons residential programs until 1987. In late 1988 Gordon moved to Kingston, where he resided at the Koenig Residence of Cerebral Palsy of Ulster County until the time of his death. Gordon Miller was considered by all to be an exceptionally friendly and social individual. Gordon was very close with his Koenig housemates, especially longtime friend Ray. They grew up together and resided at both the Wassaic and Koenig residences together. Ray and Gordon would often tell stories of their "bad boy" years and laugh with staff about them. Gordon enjoyed listening to Motown, and he was particularly proud of his "wolf calls of the wild" and his "strong left hook." He worked at the ARC Pecora Center on Smith Avenue in Kingston as a Mail Carrier for at least 3 years. Gordon was very proud of his work position there, and he attended the Pecora Center five days per week. Gordon enjoyed his time at the Pecora Center and he made many friends there over the years. Gordon considered his friends at Koenig and at the Pecora Center to be family. All who knew Gordon also understood that he had a strong sense of fashion -he liked to dress up "snazzy." During his off time hours at the Koenig residence, Gordon spent time making jokes throughout the day with all his friends. Gordon will be greatly missed by his friends and family, and he will always be lovingly remembered as someone who could bring a smile to one's face within a minute of a conversation. Gordon had an older sister Core Lee, and has several nephews. He is survived by many dear friends. Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Wednesday from 11:30 am - 12:00 pm. At noon a celebration of his life, with sharing by his friends, will be conducted. Interment will follow in Montrepose Cemetery.
