Gloria Mayone O'Rourke, 86, a lifelong resident of Kingston, died Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at the HealthAlliance Hospital Broadway Campus.
Born in Kingston, she was a daughter of the late John and Catherine Sottile Mayone. Gloria graduated from Kingston High School in 1944 and the Spencer Business School in 1945. She married Sheldon F. O'Rourke on October 9, 1949 and enjoyed a lovely marriage of 50 years until his death in 2000.
She was employed by Kingston City Schools as a secretary to four department heads from 1975 until her retirement in 1995. Before staying home to raise her children she worked for Prudential Insurance Company as a secretary to the District Manager. She also worked at Klein and Klein Esq. of Kingston.
Upon her retirement, she became a Board Member of the Kingston Housing Authority. She also was a member of the Board of Directors of S.C.O.R.E. She was an avid reader, history buff, gardener, and crossword puzzler and follower of politics. She was an original founder of Coach House Players and a member of the Benedictine Auxiliary. She was an active member of St. Joseph's Mother's Club, and the Junior Marrieds of the YWCA.
Gloria is survived by four children, Sean O'Rourke and his wife Susan of Monroe, CT, Gloria Ferraro and her husband, David of Kingston, NY, Eileen O'Rourke of Kingston, Kathleen Antonelli and her husband, Louis of New Windsor, NY. She is survived by eight grandchildren, Jillian, Patrick, Laura, Johnny, Katie, Shana, Gabi and Sarah, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Gloria was predeceased by her oldest daughter Colleen Greeke, a grandson, Bryan Greeke , a brother John Ray Mayone, two sisters Marie Tomlinson and Eleanor Bellio, a niece Kathleen (Sissy) Mayone and two nephews John Mayone Jr. and Edward Mayone.
Reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Friday, November 15, 2013 from 4-8 PM.
The funeral procession will form on Saturday from the funeral home at 9:00 AM.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church at 10:00 AM.
Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
