Gloria Murphy, 85, of Saugerties, died January 14, 2017 at HealthAlliance Hospital Broadway Campus Kingston, NY.
Born in Brooklyn NY, she was a daughter of the late Michael & Marietta Moramarco Piccininni.
Always with a focus on nurturing and raising her family first, Gloria worked over the years in the medical profession for Dr. Weiner, Optometrist, in Fishkill and Dr. Lonergan, Ophthalmologist in Kingston. Gloria, who was highly organized, had many interests over the years. Photography of her family was her passion. She loved travel, traveling many countries including a trip around the world. She discovered her love of the ocean and sandy beaches and for years would travel to the beach home and hotel she built and loved in Vieques, Puerto Rico. Her other interests included, a knack for consistently winning at casino slot machines, going out to the movies, family traditions, helping friends and making people happy.
Gloria is survived by her three children, Thomas M. Murphy, Jr, and his wife Bernadette of Red Hook, Barbara Beisel and her husband John of Catskill, Andrew M. Murphy, Sr and his wife Kathleen of Saugerties, one sister, Ruby McGrory of Clifton Park, NY, six grandchildren, Thomas M. Murphy III, Andrew M. Murphy, Jr, Tara Grant, Daniel Ferrendino, Brian Murphy and Kyle Murphy, nine great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, Gloria was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband of 53 years, Thomas M. Murphy, Sr, a sister, Emily and two brothers, James and John Piccininni.
Gloria will be reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
The funeral procession will form from the funeral home on Wednesday at 8:45 AM.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph's Church in Glasco.
Entombment will follow in Wiltwyck Mausoleum.
