Gilson C. DaSilva, 62, of Kingston, died Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at Westchester Medical Center.
Born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil on March 28, 1959, he was the son of the late Ozias DaSilva and Lyra Caldas DaSilva of Brazil.
Gilson C. DaSilva worked at his father’s construction business in Brazil before immigrating to the United States at the young age of 20 years old. He came to work on building a better life. Gilson joined his late brother Wellington working in Boston and New York City. He later traveled to upstate New York and began working in the hotel business in the Catskills.
In 1982, he met his future wife Paola, which began four decades of friendship, love and family.
Soon after, his brother Marcos and he began working in the hardwood flooring business for many years. In 2002 he started his own hardwood flooring business, Gilson Wood Floors, in Kingston. Over the years, Gilson, a true craftsman, worked on hundreds of homes in the Hudson Valley. Most recently, his son Stefano joined him and continues the family business.
Gilson had a true Brazilian spirit and enjoyed hosting large family gatherings, many of which transformed his home into a virtual churrascaria; he would oversee the outdoor grill, cooking of countless meats, sometimes for hours. He loved being outdoors enjoying life, with hobbies that included cars, boats and jet skis. Gilson also had a passion for soccer, playing the sport throughout his entire life.
Together Gilson and Paola built a Sanctuary for family and friends to share in their legacy of love, honor and faith. This has impacted all their loved ones who came to know and cherish them over the years.
Both Gilson and Paola have been long time members of the Christian Fellowship Church.
Gilson is survived by his wife of 32 years, Paola Gagliardi-DaSilva of Kingston, two children, Alessandra G. DaSilva of Kingston and Stefano G.
