Gabriel G. Gabe Guido, age 88, of West Park, formerly of Union Center Road, Ulster Park, died Friday, February 15, 2008 at Wingate at Ulster, Highland. Mr. Guido was born May 27, 1919 at East Kingston, NY the son of the late John and Rose Garofalo Guido. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen Whitaker Guido who died on June 12, 1998.
He served in the Army, European and African Theater of Operations, with the Field Artillery Of The 9th Division, First Army Under Major General Craig And Served In The North African And Sicilian Campaigns; Landed In Normandy On D-Day Plus 4. Medals Include 7 Battle Stars, A Bronze Star, And Presidential Citation.
He had worked for Potter Construction, Town of Esopus Highway department and was a member of Masons Union.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Esopus, a member of the Town of Esopus American Legion, St. Remy Fire Department, and was active in the senior bowling leagues
He is survived by one daughter: Linda L. Light and her husband Earl of West Park, NY
His sisters: Constance Carpino of East Kingston, NY, Dolores McCauley of Kingston, NY, Angie Orlando of Florida and two brothers: John Guido of Kingston, NY, Joseph Guido of Kingston, NY
6 grandchildren, several great grandchildren. Predeceased by a son John A. Guido and his Brothers, Anthony Guido and Ralph Guido and a grandson John M. Guido
The funeral procession will form on Tuesday at 9:15am at the Keyser Funeral Service, 216 Broadway, Port Ewen, and proceed to Sacred Heart R.C. Church where at 10 am a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Father Eugene Grohe celebrant. The family will receive their friends on Monday from 2 - 4 & 7 9
Burial will be in Montrepose Cemetery, with full military honors provided by Joyce Schirick Post # 1286 VFW
The family suggests memorials donations be made to the St. Remy Fire Department
