Frederick Eli Greitzer, born July 17, 1947, in Bronx, N.Y., died March 16, 2015 in Kingston. Educated at Queens College in Queens, N.Y., he earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, after which he taught at Jackson High School in Queens from 1970-1973. Fred taught himself automobile repair, then owned his own repair shop in Queens before moving to Ulster County where he owned and managed the Motorhead Garage in Kingston. According to his father, Morris Greitzer, he "made the motors sing." Thereafter, he tutored many Ulster County middle and high school students in English, social studies, math, biology and chemistry. He was an avid reader and filled his house with books on diverse subjects. In addition, he held a black belt in karate. Fred loved and respected all living things: human beings, plants and animals; and he lived his life with the highest regard for ethical principles towards all people. He is survived by his mother, Mae Rosalind Stark of Kingston, his sister, Janna Greitzer of Geneva, N.Y., two nephews: Sam and Nate Burdick, and their wives and families, also cousins of the Squire and Skvirsky families. He was predeceased by his father, Morris Greitzer. A private cremation will be handled by Carr and Sons Funeral Home on Lucas Avenue in Kingston. Family and friends may call at 163 Hurley Ave. Apt. 209, in Kingston on Thursday, March 19 from 1-8 p.m., Friday, March 20 from 1-5 p.m. and Sunday March 22 from 1-8 pm.
