Freda Strokes

Freda Boice Strokes, 90, passed away peacefully at home on August 20, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 6, 1932, in Kingston, to the late George W. Boice and Nellie (Hofmann) Boice. She was married to Melford A. Strokes Jr.. Melford passed away in 2015.

Freda graduated from Kingston High School and then graduated from Kingston Hospital School of Nursing. She worked Obstetrics in Kingston Hospital as a Registered Nurse for 20 years. She then worked at Hutton Nursing Home for 10 years as a Night Supervisor. Freda transitioned to working as the Night Supervisor at Golden Hill until she retired in 1999. She was a dedicated care giver and touched many lives. She focused on raising her children and later on focused on her grandchildren. She enjoyed her beloved pets and took pride in her gardens. She was all about family and celebrating Holidays and Birthdays.

She is survived by her daughters Valerie, Freda D. and Cindy all of Kingston. Her son Melford C "Manny" and his wife Tina of Mt Marion. Her grandchildren Megan Macedonia and her husband Michael of Peekskill, Jonathan Keefe and Joshua Keefe of Kingston; her great-grandson, "her favorite little buddy" Braedan Augustus Macedonia; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by her brothers, George "Bill", Charles, Paul, Philip and Stanley Boice and her sisters Inez Wood and Ellen Kirchner.

Many thanks to the loving and caring staff of Ulster County Hospice. The staff was like family to Freda. She looked forward to her visits with Sister Maria and shared stories about her life on the farm growing up as a young girl.
