Francis Paul "Frank" Giampavolo of Butternut Knolls, West Shokan, NY died Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at his home. He was 86.
He was born in Fairview, NJ a son of the late Santos and Minnie Zacchino Giampavolo.
Formerly of Union City, NJ, Mr. Giampavolo served in tank division of the US Army during WW II in the European Theater of Operations. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded a Purple Heart.
Upon return from service he married June Petermann on August 28, 1946. From 1957 - 1983 they lived in Demarest, NJ. Frank owned and operated "Giampavolo Trucking" for many years in New Jersey.
He moved to West Shokan, NY in 1985 and was a parishioner of St. John's Church, West Hurley.
Seven brothers and sisters predeceased him.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, June Giampavolo; one daughter Susan Kull Schmid and her husband Fred of Machiasport, Maine, one son Paul Giampavolo and his wife Christine; grandchildren Michele Edwards, Jonathan Kull, Angela Geiser; four great grandchildren Emma Edwards, Jackson Kull, Gabriel and Grayson Geiser, many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. John's Church, Holly Hills, West Hurley on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice, Inc., 34 Broadway, Kingston, NY 12401.
A gathering of family and friends will be conducted on Sunday, March 21st from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Moritz Funeral Home, 348 Closter Dock Rd. Closter, NJ 07624 (201)768-4200.
