Frank A. Bonavita, of Clifton Ave., Kingston died Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at Ten Broeck Commons. He was 93.
He was born in Stockton, CA on May 7, 1916 a son of the late Frank A. and Rosina DeCicco Bonavita. As a teenager Frank worked at the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)and then worked at the brickyards.
He owned his own grocery store and drove his vegetable delivery truck to all the summer visitors in Glasco and Kingston. He married Mary R. Carpino on June 6, 1937.
For many years he was an Inspector at Electrol and Rotron. With his wife, Mary, they owned and operated "Bonnie's" restaurant on Broadway, Kingston from 1958 to the late 1970's. After retirement he continued to work, part-time, in Grand Union and then for the County of Ulster. Frank loved people and was happy to be working.
He was a parishioner of St. Mary's R.C. Church and Third Degree member of the Kingston Council #275, Knights of Columbus. At his death, Frank was the oldest living member of the St. Mary's Benevolent Society.
His wife, Mary, died December 23, 1981; his son Frank J. Bonavita died April 21, 2009; three sisters Louise Rea, Laura Naccarato and Emma Mayone and one brother Joseph Bonavita all died previously.
Surviving are one daughter Joyce Fasano and her husband Angelo of Kingston; eight grandchildren Dana A. Fasano and his wife Sharon, Rena M. Estes and her husband Phil, Frank J. Bonavita Jr. and his wife Dallas, Paul Bonavita and his wife Heather, Theresa Moore and her husband Matt, Thomas Bonavita and his wife Kay, Michael Bonavita and his wife Regan, and Matthew Bonavita; one sister Rosemarie Sasso of Glasco, one brother Michael Bonavita of Glasco, daughter in law Ginny McCord Bonavita of Raleigh, NC, 16 great grandchildren Connor, Grace, Griffin, Eliza, Madison, Joey, Patrick, Stephen, William, Christopher, Allie, Caroline, Claire, Ryan, Ethan and Joshua, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral procession will form on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
