Francesco “Frank” Altomare, 87, of Kingston died Wednesday April 28, 2021 at Ten Broeck Center for Rehabilitation & Nursing in Lake Katrine.
Born in Rogliano, Cosenza, Italy he was the son of the late Pietro & Santa Garofalo Altomare.
With the help and encouragement of brother Nicholas Altomare, Francesco immigrated from Italy in 1972 in search of a better life for himself and his family. He had worked skillfully for the Bricklayers Union as a mason. He enjoyed spending good times with family and friends. He also enjoyed vegetable gardening and dancing. He was particularly proud of growing his tomatoes for making homemade sauce.
Francesco is survived by his children, Mario Altomare and his wife Carolina, of Revere, MA, Assunta “Sue” Fabiano and her husband Ernie, of Glasco, Anna Staiger and her husband Paul Sr., of Kingston, and Nicola Altomare and his wife Jennifer, of Kingston. He is survived by four grandchildren, Paul Staiger Jr. and his wife Colleen, Michael Staiger and his wife Jessica, Teresa and Eva Altomare. Francesco is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Francesco was predeceased by his wife Teresa, who passed away in 1988, a son, Antonio and his brother, Mario Altomare.
Francesco will be reposing at the Simpson-Hammerl Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., Kingston on Tuesday May 4, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church at 12:00 PM.
Entombment next to his wife Teresa, in the family mausoleum in Rogliano, Cosenza, Italy will take place at a later date.
