Frances Shapiro, 79, of Kingston, formerly of Brooklyn, died January 14, 2015 at Westchester Medical Center.
Born in London, England, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin & Ann Holman Shapiro. Frances immigrated to the United States in 1959. She taught academics as a 1st and 2nd grade teacher at Ahi Ezer Yeshiva in Brooklyn for 10 years. She worked at the Jewish Press in Brooklyn and was a librarian at the Kingston Library for 15 years. She was a former member and taught religious school at Temple Emanuel. She was a member and volunteer at Congregation Agudas Achim, and a former Girl Scout Leader. Frances was a Town of Ulster Democratic Committee Person and was a candidate for Town Clerk in the Town of Ulster. She was also Past Adjutant for the Jewish War Veterans, Post #625 in Poughkeepsie.
Frances is survived by her husband of 57 years, Arthur J. Shapiro of Kingston, whom she married on December 29, 1957, three children, Bernie Shapiro and his wife Yvonne of Copaigue, NY, Elaine Shapiro of Saugerties and Michele Shapiro of the state of Washington, one brother, Stanley Shapiro of Roseland, NJ, ten grandchildren, Elizabeth Shapiro, Lisa Shapiro, Michael Smith, Jessica Schott, Erik Shapiro, Zach Shapiro, Jake Shapiro, Desiree Wylie, James Putis, Nicki Morgenstern, and eight great grandchildren, Pierce Smith, Aden Vuillemot, Emma Smith, Wyatt Schott, Zach Schott, Ethan Farcher, Landon Hotaling, and Noah Morganstern. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
A Funeral Service will be conducted on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Congregation Agudas Achim with Rabbi Yitzchok Hecht, officiating.
Interment will follow in Montrepose Cemetery.
